  1. What do you Authenticate?
We authenticate any artifact which has been deposited in the ground for any extended period of time, however our specialty is North American Native American flint, stone, bone, and pottery.
  2. Do you Authenticate Slate and Polished Stone?
Yes. We authenticate all types of Slate and Polished stone artifacts ranging from simple celts and axes to birdstones, discoidals and bannerstones.
  3. Do you Authenticate Pottery?
Yes. We authenticate pottery of all types, however we will not issue certifcates on pottery items with more than 50% restoration or repainted/reglazed items.
  4. I have an Item from Egypt/Greece/China/South America/Etc. Can you examine it for authenticity?
Yes. Our authentication method applies to artifacts of all prehistoric cultures all over the globe.
  5. Will you issue a Certificate if a piece exhibits restoration or modern rework?
Yes. We will issue certificates on items exhibiting modern restoration. On modernly reworked items, we will only issue a certificate when the rework is confined to non-diagnostic areas (i.e. tip, blade edges) and only at the owner's request. In both cases, the certificate will note the restoration or modern rework.
  6. I've lost the provenance on my artifact. Will that affect the Evaluation?
No. We do not fault the artifact for a lack of provenance. We will attempt to discern probable origin of the artifact based on form, material, etc.
  7. How do you recommend I ship my artifacts?
We recommend any shipment of artifacts to at least have some form of tracking information. We recommend U.S. Priority Mail based on our 40 years of experience dealing with Private shippers like UPS, FedEx, DHL, etc.
  8. I have a lot of artifacts and I'm afraid to ship them, what should I do?
Please feel free to contact us directly. We can set up appointments for evaluation in person.
  9. Do you offer discounts beyond that which is available on your website?
No. Unfortunately, we have bills to pay like everyone else, and this is a business.
  10. I received a letter saying my artifact was a reproduction or was rechipped. What does this mean?
The 'Kill' letter as they are sometimes referred to, means that we found evidence of modern enhancement of some form which would preclude issue of a certificate on that particular piece. If you feel this is in error, feel free to contact us.
  11. I have an old Overstreet Guide which shows a different address. What's your correct address so I can send artifacts to you for evaluation?
Our correct address is always available on our website, however our most current address is as follows:
    Jackson Galleries
    P.O. Box 1005
    Mount Sterling, KY 40353
    1-800-466-3836
  12. Will you recommend another Authenticator if I want a second opinion?
Yes, we will recommend another authenticator which might best serve you on the particular artifact in question. Although, of the 40+ other authenticators in the marketplace, we are not aware of any that ascribe to our same scientific principles in the evaluation process.
  13. I'm concerned about fakes in general. How can I learn more?
If the Evaluation Training Course we offer is too much for you to consider, a good start would be to join your local Archaeological Society.
