Authentication Evaluation Reporting Standard

What This Standard Covers
- This Standard addresses how Jackson Galleries treats items returned for authenticity reasons
- This Standard is in addition to, and in some instances overrides, our General Artifact policy.
- This Standard applies to all items sold by Jackson Galleries, or through its brokerage, and submitted to a commercial authentication firm as well as anyone else offering an opinion of authenticity that may result in a return.
- Jackson Galleries recognizes that there is a wide variety of methodologies employed by various authenticators with regards to what constitutes 'Authentic'. As such, we require a standardized report accompany any item returned for authenticity purposes. This report will aid Jackson Galleries in assessing the validity of the evaluation, and aid in improving the quality of our evaluations.
Authenticity Return Policy
- Jackson Galleries will not accept a return for authenticity reasons on items lacking a properly formatted report.
- Jackson Galleries will accept a return for authenticity reasons on items accompanied by a properly formatted report.
- Jackson Galleries will not accept a return for authenticity reasons on items received in condition other than shipped.
Proper Format of the Report - See Example
An item returned for authenticity purposes must be accompanied by a report which contains the following information:
- Life-size or Near-Life size or larger, image of the item with evidenciary areas indicated, and specific description of that evidence and why it supports inauthenticity or 'other-than-described' scenarios including where applicable, independent references supporting the evaluation.
- Disclosure of methods used to arrive at opinion.
- Equipment used to locate evidence.
- Disclosure of qualifications as an authenticator including articles, pertinent college coursework, etc.
Changes to this Standard
- Jackson Galleries may update this standard. We will notify you about significant changes to this standard by sending a notice to the primary email address specified in your contact information or by placing a prominent notice on our site.
